5th CNS International Summer School (CISS06)

The 5th CNS International Summer School will be held at the Wako campus of the Center for Nuclear Study (CNS), the University of Tokyo, in the period of August 24 - 29, 2006 .

This Summer School aims at providing basic knowledge and perspectives of nuclear physics for graduate students and postdocs. It consists of lectures by leading scientists in the field of both experimental and theoretical nuclear physics. Each lecture will start with an introductory talk from the fundamental point of view and end with up-to-date topics in the relevant field. During summer school short presentations by students and PostDocs are also planned.

Although this summer school is intended to provide lectures in a wide-range field including some peripheral field such as accelerator physics, lectures in this year put main emphasis on physics about various aspects of "nuclear structure". Scheduled lecturers are as follows:

  • I. Hamamoto (Lund, Sweden)
"One-particle motion in deformed nuclei - from stable to drip-line"
  • B. Sherrill (MSU, USA)
"Experiments with radioactive ion beams at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory"
  • T. Neff (MSU, USA)
"Nuclear structure and reactions in the Fermionic Molecular Dynamics approach"
  • W. Mittig (GANIL, France)
"Low to Medium Energy Experiments for the study of exotic nuclei"
  • M. Kohno (Kyushu dent., Japan)
"Equivalent and effective interactions in nuclear physics"
  • T. Takatsuka (Iwate, Japan)
    "Baryon Matter and Neutron Stars"
  • K. Sumiyoshi (Numazu, Japan)
"Supernova Simulations and the Role of Nuclear Physics"
  • H. Ueno (RIKEN, Japan)
"Study of unstable nuclei through the measurement of nuclear moments"
  • Y. Utsuno (JAEA, Japan)
"Shell-model approach to the island of inversion and beyond"

CNS welcomes gladly participations of young physicists wide from the world, especially from Asian countries. The organizer may provide living expenses of young students within the limited resource. We can also cover travel expenses of a limited number of participants. If you need the financial supports, please contact us.

Lectures will be given at NISHINA HALL (2nd floor of the Nishina Memorial Building in RIKEN)
