CNS has several devices in RIBF in RIKEN Nishina Center and pursues the experimental nuclear physics such as nuclear astrophysics and nuclear structure/reaction studies with radioactive isotope beams. We also have branches of fundamental physics with radioactive heavy elements, high-energy nuclear physics, nuclear theory and development of ion sources.

Opening of Assistant Research Staff

  1. Title and Hiring Numbers: Assistant Research Staff, a few positions available

  2. Term of Employment: April 1st, 2021 ~ March 31st, 2022

  3. Renewal of Contract:One-year fixed-term employment contract, renewable up to March 31st, 2024 (maximum 3 years) according to research budget, research activity, and research achievements.

  4. Probation Period: 14 days from the date employment commences

  5. Place of Work: Center for Nuclear Study, the Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo (CNS in RIKEN, Hirosawa2-1, Wako-shi, Saitama)

  7. Contents of Work Duties: Experimental and theoretical nuclear physics. The successful candidates will work on experimental nuclear physics with radioactive isotopes mainly by using the devices of CNS (CRIB, SHARAQ, Ge array (GRAPE), OEDO, Active Target, etc), on fundamental physics with radioactive heavy elements, on high energy nuclear collisions at ALICE at LHC, or on nuclear structure theory.

  8. Working Day/Hours: Working hours and days are deemed to be 6 hours (10:00-16:45, 12:00-12:45 rest) and five days (Mon – Fri) per week, respectively.

  9. Days off, Leave: Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays and end-of-year and new-year holidays (December 29 to January 3), Annual leave, Special Leave, etc

  10. Wages, etc: 1,970 yen/hour, Commuter allowance: JPY55,000 per month at maximum
    Overtime allowance: Dependent on hours of each month

  11. Insurance: The successful candidate will be automatically enrolled in the health insurance and pension schemes provided by the Mutual Aid Association of MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) and will be provided with employment insurance.

  12. Qualification Requirements: The candidates have experience in experimental and theoretical heavy-ion physics researches and must be cooperative in education and researches in CNS.

Interviews will take place at Wako or ONLINE depending on the COVID-19 situation and consist of a presentation of the research achievements and plans. For applicants from abroad, the interview will be conducted via ONLINE (Zoom).
